Dave
Alvin & A Couple of
Guilty Women 2/19 – 8 p.m.
Grammy winner Dave Alvin is considered to be one of the pivotal
founders of the current Americana music scene. And no one states
what he does better than the man himself. “To put it simply, there
are two types of folk music; there’s quiet folk music and there’s
loud folk music. I like to
play both.” From the aggressive rock & roll of The Blasters (70’s)
to the acoustic
storytelling of his solo work, Alvin continues to expand his musical range with
the Guilty
Women line-up, which features the always cool Cindy Cashdollar. $25

Ladysmith
Black Mambazo
2/27 – 8
p.m. Hot off a
2009 Grammy win, LSBM’s music is the embodiment and soul of
South Africa. The
world was introduced to them when they heard their stunning harmonies
on Paul
Simon’s “Graceland” and they have continually shared
their magic with musical luminaries
such as Josh Groban, Taj Mahal, and George Clinton. Founder Joseph
Shabalala formed this group with his brothers
40 years ago and while the band continues
to evolve and change with the times,
the one thing that stays the same is
their energetic and completely
heart lifting dances. Keep an eye
out for the red socks.
